Our Beginnings
In 2013, Aaron and Carol Bauman and their daughter, Gabriella, began Bauman Berners on their small farm in Smithville, OH. A family with a lot of experience with farm animals (large and small), an interest in owning and raising Bernes Mountain Dogs was sparked as they researched the breed. After careful consideration, they decided to welcome one into their family. After getting their first Berner, Alaska, in February of 2013 the whole family fell in love with the personality and beauty of the breed. Alaska stole their hearts, and they knew they wanted to share the love they had experienced with other families! They began pursuing breeding in the fall of 2014, once Alaska was old enough to have her first litter. Over the years, the Baumans have welcomed other dogs into their family and seen the Bauman Berners “family” grow as they match puppies with their forever families. Bauman Berner puppies have found homes across the US, even up into Alaska!
Expanding to SC
Joel is the youngest son of Aaron and Carol, and spent the last few years at home helping his parents with the Berners; he quickly came to love the breed. In 2019, he married Charis, an avid animal lover and puppy enthusiast. Once Charis visited the Big Sky Farm in Ohio and met the Bernese puppies, she was hooked! On Christmas 2020, Joel gave Charis the best Christmas present imaginable - a Bauman Berner puppy! Nova became a beloved member of their family, and they knew they wanted to bless other people with the happiness Nova had brought them. Everyone who meets Nova instantly falls in love with her sweet disposition, kind eyes, and big heart.
Once Nova was old enough, Charis and Joel bred her with Finn and started the Greenville, SC Bauman Berners branch. Nova loves her home in South Carolina and spends her days getting ample cuddles, belly rubs, and time with her favorite humans and dog friends.
